I hate sunscreen. But living in Texas, the sun shines every month of the year and will blister you in the summer months, so you must take precautions, otherwise you will need to get way too familiar with a dermatologist after you pass the 30 mark.

A few years ago, a dermatologist recommended Z-Silc (rated SPF 30) as a good daily wear sunscreen.At that point, I had tried almost every over-the-counter brand from Banana Boat to Neutrogena; if it said "sensitive skin" on the label and cost more than $15, I tried it.But each suffered a weakness: from insufficient sun protection, to inflamed skin, to pasty films that required scrubbing off.

I was skeptical about Z-Silc as the primary ingredient was zinc.My recollection of zinc was that it was blue and you put it under your ski goggles.Nonetheless, it turned out that Z-Silc was pretty good: it kept you from getting a sunburn, washed off easily, and, most importantly, didn't anger the skin, unlike the sunscreens that used chemical barriers.The price you paid was that if was garishly white and, if overapplied, would lead to an unintentional goth rock look -a particularly tragic side effect in that your underlying purpose for wearing sunscreen was enjoying more time in the sun.

Neova DNA Damage Control 43 is the next generation of zinc-based sunscreens and a far superior successor to Z-Silc.For those familiar to Z-Silc, it is much lighter than Z-Silc, while now more protective.If you liked Z-Silc, you will like this much better.The only downside is that the tube is now 2.5 ounces rather than 3.5 ounces.Means you can carry it on the plane, but you are paying more for less.

For those new to Neova or zinc-based sunscreen, a few pluses and minuses:

Pluses:

1. fairly close to transparent when applied

2. very light, feels like a regular lotion on your face

3. exceptional for sensitive skin

Minuses:

1. expensive costs at least 3X of a mass market brand

2. may discolor dark clothes (though usually washes out)

Whether it is a true "SPF 43" is unknown, though one should be suspicious about all of the SPF claims.Since finding this product, however, have abandoned using products with a claimed SPF 70, 90, 100+ as the tradeoff of protection to willingness to apply was not worth it.The most effective sunscreen is the one you will wear.All of the sunscreens advise to reapply periodically; do that with almost any product with an advertised SPF 30 or above and you should be set.As to zinc-based sunscreens in particular, apply them from top of your face down -something about the grain of the skin such that this looks better when applied than trying to rub in.

In summary, if you have sensitive skin, this might be your sunscreen.Were it not an exceptional product on that count, would deduct a star for the minuses set out above.Separately, would also acknowledge that this is really too long a review for such a prosaic product, but if saves one person from a future trip to the dermatologist for sun damage, it is worth it.

I used Neova's Ti-Silc Sheer for seven or eight years and loved it.It has recently been discontinued and I mistakenly ordered this product as a replacement.I had a severe allergic reaction that is painful and ugly.

My allergy is not Neova's fault, of course, but I just wanted to warn anyone who has used Ti-Silc successfully that this product does not have the same ingredients, and you may be in for an unpleasant surprise!Choose the other new Neova product to truly replace the wonderful Ti-Silc we know and love.

I have very sensitive skin and cannot tolerate the anti-aging ingredients in this product.It's such a disappointment, because Neova's discontinued Z-Silc was perfect.I had used it every day for years, and I've never found a better sunblock.It felt like a normal, gentle moisturizer, but was a very effective block.I can't understand why Neova would discontinue such a perfect product and add irritating ingredients to a sunblock for sensitive skin.The package even acknowledges it can cause a rash, as it did for me (as well as a breakout).This product is not good for acne-prone skin, as Z-Silc was.Neova, please bring back Z-Silc!

it was not greasy and went on smooth.I wish it came in a pump instead of a tube.Since it is a bit liquidy it comes out of the tube a bit too fast.Otherwise I would recommend the product

I have not seen it do any thing for my "damaged" skin.It is also a bit greasy so I only use it in the winter when my skin is dry.Otherwise, it runs havoc with my naturally oily skin. It is also a chemical based sunblock (although it does offer some mineral based protection).Go with something more natural with less chemicals that will offer better protection.This product is not worth it for its price.

This is actually a great idea, but the idiots who packaged it created a ton of creases that are obvious once applied to the window and make it look like old window tinting that's coming off.If they simply rolled the sheet up and sold it in a tube, we would not have this problem.

Aside from this major negative, this is a great solution if you want to be able to roll the window down with the shade on it.You can also cut it up into shapes/sizes to custom fit your window.

Based on other reviews, I think a lot of people don't know how to install this correctly (blame it on the vague directions that come in the box).So I am copying another reviewer's tips on installing from a similar product's page.If you follow these tips, it should be a breeze (though don't expect the creases to go away):

Here's what you do...

1. Clean the window to remove any dust and lint.

2. Remove the cling from package and avoid too many finger prints on it. Also, try not to place it on your car seats or anywhere that it can pick up dust/lint.

3. Spray a light mist of glass cleaner on your window.

4. "Float" the cling on the wet surface until you get it where you want it.

5. Using an old credit card, work any bubbles/liquid out from the center of the cling towards the edges. Be careful to do this gently and slowly so that the card doesn't catch on the plastic and make a kink.

6. Use paper towels to soak up glass cleaner as it seeps out from the edges.

7. If you have any stubborn areas, lift the cling away from the glass, spray more cleaner, and repeat steps 5-6.

Pros:

Sticks well to windows

Comes with 2 big pieces in each box

Able to roll down window with it on

It's basically a removable car tint

Cons:

It doesn't fit the whole back window, the existence of both tint and un-tinted region makes it a little confusing for the driver when they need to look to change lane.

Conclusion:

Negative reviews on the retractable shades convinced me to buy this one. I would've preferred a tint that blocks out a little more sun.

My sister and I both own these window shades.

1. Creases in film

NEITHER of us had an issue with folds/creases in the film.Yes, they come folded up, but warmth smooths the creases, and they completely go away.

2. Ease of application

Yes, clean the window first.Of course the film doesn't automatically lie flat and bubbles remain.Simply use a credit card or other similar surface edge to smooth out most bubbles.I wouldn't have expected this to be like window tinting.I didn't purchase window tinting...

3. Size

One film almost completely covers a small window, but it does not cover the entire back windshield.This shouldn't surprise anyone given the dimensions of the film.

4. Aesthetics

Of course these are not fabulously attractive you've chosen to put a piece of film on your window that doesn't completely cover it!I DO THINK they are MUCH MORE attractive than the roller shades.I searched and searched to find anything less ridiculous than roller shades.These provide a more chic look (as chic as you can get with a piece of film...).

5. Value

Seriously, these are incredibly cheap, work well, are the "least worst" in appearance (in my opinion).I highly recommend them if you are otherwise not inclined to buy super dark window tinting and think roller shades or those with Disney characters are silly looking. :-)

These sun shades are atrocious because they don't stick as well leaving air bubbles plus they are hard to see through (in the blind spot) while changing lanes.

I needed something cheaper that would stay stuck to the window as I kept hearing how the ones that suction cup onto the window fall off frequently and/or your child will pull it off.This works perfect for what I need right now. I have a subaru forester and put one on each of the side windows. It doesnt cover it all, but it was the largest I could find in my price range and it does a good jobprobably covers 80% of the window. I like that it sticks well to the window and you can put the window up and down without the shade coming undone. I put them on 3 months ago, and they are no where near coming off.I think they will be staying on until I take them off. They do a GREAT job of keeping the sun off my daughter and actually help to cool the car a bit.

I read the reviews and knew it came in a small box all folded up and wrinkled.Reviewers said to use a blow dryer to get the wrinkles out. Here I am trying to blow dry these out with a 1 month old baby. Yea, not happening. I just layed them out flat for two days.Wrinkles were still there when I applied them, but when applied correctly, the wrinkles come right out. The best review I read was how to apply these correctly:

1. Clean your window with windex. (or something similiar).

2. Spray a thin film of windex (or I imagine water would do just fine) on the window and carefully apply the shade. The windex helps to "float" the shade on the window as you work to even it out. Might take a few attempts to get it even and straight.

3. Then starting from the middle and going out, use a credit card to smooth the shade onto the window and get all of the bubbles out. Keep a rag handy to catch the windex that comes out when you smooth it out.

So this isnt a perfect shade as it has its flaws, but I researched these shades heavily and I couldnt find anything out there that was perfect. So the flaws: one of my shades was not cut correctly at the company who sent them to me and therefore, no matter what way I put it on, its crooked (what you get for the cheaper price). I also could not get all of the bubbles out, but enough to where you really cant see them that much. And it doesnt cover the whole window. But again, I couldnt find any that were bigger within my price range.

All in all, the shade keeps the sun off my daughter, and thats its main job, so Im happy. I think the quality is actually great considering the price. If you are really worried about how it looks on your car, this may not be for you.Or buy multiple ones in case you get a piece thats cut crooked like mine!

Overall, I recommend this shade as its postives outweigh the negatives!

I don't know if I've ever used a face lotion that I liked as well as this one.It feels so rich when you're smoothing it on, but not a bit greasy.It's such a pleasure to apply, I find myself spreading it on my neck as well (which I know i should be doing anyway, but usually don't), just for the sheer enjoyment of how wonderful it feels.With the first use, I noticed that my skin felt more hydrated.

This is a wonderful moisturizer for very dry skin. It makes my skin feel soft, smooth, and comfortable, without the greasy, heavy feeling of most moisturizers meant for very dry skin.

However, the fragrance! My skin is ultra-sensitive and I know this moisturizer would be more comfortable to use if there was no fragrance. It stings when I apply it in a way that my other Olay Total Effects products don't, and the only possible cause can be the fragrance in this one, since I have the other formulas in a fragrance-free version.

So, there's my plea to Olay: make this available in a fragrance-free version and I'll be your loyal devotee for life!
