Our only complaint is that if you rub it too long or apply to an area where you already just applied it, it can slough or roll off in little bits.It spreads very easily unlike some of the other sunscreens that are safer or more natural.Takes a little practice and getting used to just spread quickly and thoroughly and don't overspread or overapply.I'm much better with it, my husband is not as patient, but getting there.
If you are swimming, heavily applied areas can whiten, but the excess disappears with a gentle swipe. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, but hey, it's not full of chemicals so I think I can handle some streaking. We do exercise common sense by being careful to watch for signs of burning even when we're using suncreen, but we haven't had that problem so far with this product. So far our experience with this product has been positive.
This sunscreen is like no other I have ever used, and I am not sure if it is in a good way.It does not absorb into the skin like normal lotions.Instead, it creates a film on top of the skin.Do not apply too much and smooth over skin quickly, again do not try to rub itjust spread and let dry before dressing.
It peels pretty bad if you apply too much.
It did prevent sunburn on my recent cruise and 6 hour open boat excursion in Cozumel.I bought this due to the fact that our reef system is damaged by chemical sunscreens and spending time exploring reefs, I never want to damage them. For that reason, I would buy again.Just beware that the application takes a little practice.

My wife and I recently spent ten days in Mexico and she used this product to cover most of her torso and back. In years before when we spent excessive amounts of time in the sun she would develop a rash/ water bubbles around her neck, chest, and shoulder area. We did not know if it was sun poisoining, an allergic reaction to sunscreen, a heat rash, etc... We just knew she had a problem. So we decided to get an oxide based, naturals sunscreen to see if this would solve the problem. The past three years she has broken out but this past trip she never broke out once. We would spend approximately 4 hours in the sun in the morning and three in the afternoon and would apply once in the morning and once before heading back into the sun for the afternoon. She never once got burned and never once got the rash. This is a great product and I would reccomend to anyone. It leaves you with a great looking tan without the dangerous burn. However, the product does have some quirks. The product is runny unlike most oxides which are thick and goopy, but it does not soak in good leaving the skin a little white. Not a whole lot but just gives a whitish tint. My wife is usually a freak about stuff like that but the slight tint did not bother her. This is a physical blocker that does not soak into the skin like coppertone or other benzone based creams which absorb into the skin. It actually creates a physical blocking agent on top of the skin. Another quirk is if you rub it too much it begins to cake on the skin and "flake". That was weird and have never seen anything like that before. Also once the caking area gets wet it will come off in the water but the sunblock still works. The first time it happened we were afraid that that area would get burnt but it never did. I think it is just the excessive cream coming off the skin because it doesn't soak it while the physical sunblock layer stays on. I am giving this product 4 stars just because of the quirkiness and not because it does not work. We will continue to use this product for years to come because it protecting my wife for 10 days of sun 7 hours a day in Mexico! Just remember it does have some weird qualities though!
A little goes a long way with Mexitan SPF 30. It is very important to make sure you rub it in right away until you can't see any white on your skin. If you leave white spots, they will quickly dry and flake off creating a shedding effect. It goes on as a creamy white liquid, spreads quickly but also dries quickly. Seems to protect just fine, no problems with sunburn or irritation. The only problem is that it seems to dry the skin slightly so using a moisturizer after bathing is helpful. I am very fair and using regular sunscreens seemed to irritate my skin after several hours so this product works well for me as it doesn't contain any of the damaging chemicals used in most popular brands of sunscreen. After reading the mixed reviews on the product I bought one bottle to test it out. I used it on myself and my two children, we are all very fair. We spent the day in our backyard playing and swimming and I can say we did not get burned. I tested it out a few more times, always having a chemical sunscreen on hand for backup but we did not need it.I bought three more bottles to last us through the summer/fall outdoor season. The price is the best I've found for a natural sunscreen and it works like it should.
I gave only four out of five stars for application reasons. First of all it does take some practice to apply properly. It does not rub in as easily as chemical sunscreens. You have to be quick and do small areas at a time otherwise it will dry and you will either be white or, if you rub after it dries, it will peel and flake.Second you really need to apply at least a half hour before you go outside and reapply every 1-2 hours, especially if swimming or sweating. It just take some getting used to after years of using other sunscreens you could apply once and not worry about for the rest of the day. I think it is worth it though because I don't have to worry about apply potentially harmful chemicals on myself or my children.
