Burt's Bees Sunscreen SPF 15

Burt's Bees Sunscreen SPF 15, 3.46-Ounce TubeI'm sad to report that one of my favorite natural companies have produced a horrible product. I went on a vacation to Barbados with it, used it once and hated it so much. I'm a black Woman, and as soon as I put this one, it left my skin looking purple. Trying to wipe it off was also a disaster. It refused to be wiped off fully. It was sticky, smelled horrible and just a total disaster. They need to discontinue this product and try again with a better formula.

I use other Burt's Bees products, so I grabbed this when I saw it.And I had a difficult time spreading it (as another reviewer noted).

Here's the way it went.I squeezed the cream (consistency of honey, although it's whitish and opaque) onto one hand, patted both hands together, then swiped the cream on my face. This is difficult to describe but as soon as the cream hit my face, it's almost as if it solidified on the spot.So I had a bunch of white streaks on my face, and no way to spread the cream around to get it to other areas on the skin.I tried rubbing harder to get rid of the white streaks, and the product sort of rubbed off into teeny tiny pills or flakes. So now I looked like I had peeling skin.Around the hairline where I rubbed, all those whitish flakes ended up in my hair, so I looked like I suddenly had a terrible dandruff problem.

I simply didn't find the product usable.Perhaps I purchased an old, dried out tube? It's just so inconsistent with the standards of the product line.Needless to say, I don't recommend it.

Lastly, I can't comment on it's sun-protective power as I only used it that one time. But I do want to point out that it's rated as SPF-15, so anyone going into the sun for hours at a time should expect to turn out like a lobster.

I love that this is all natural, and am very suspicious of the chemicals in ordinary sunscreen, but this would also need to protect me from the sun for me to continue to use it.I applied this product liberally to my face and hands before spending 2-3 hours in the May Michigan sun, frequently under a roof or canopy.I have the first sunburn I've had in a long time.

It does feel better than normal sunscreen, and doesn't seem to affect my skin. But if it doesn't protect me from the sun, that doesn't help.Even if the sun protection problem could be remedied with frequent applications, a 3.5 oz. tube for over $10 wouldn't last a day.

Obviously the people who write here are comparing this sunscreen to ones that either have chemicals in them, or that break the zinc into nanoparticles.

I would not use either of those, no matter what.As is appropriate for Burt's Bees, this sunscreen is free of potentially harmful ingredients.

I have found the product to be pleasant to use and effective, and so would recommend it for others who want a safe, natural sunscreen.

All of these low-toxicity, titanium-dioxide-based sunscreens are hard to apply evenly, and leave a more or less white-ish color to your skin. That's just the way they are.

However, Burt's mixes hemp and other oils to smooth and thin out the mix which makes it significantly easier to apply than other brands.

If you think Burt's is hard, try Badger almost impossible to spread evenly. Also the tube of SPF 35 I tried had lumps of hard titanium dioxide throughout.I emailed the company. They said that's "normal."They said you have to break up the hard lumps and mix it all together with you fingers before you apply!Forgetaboutit!

So I'm sticking with Burt's.
