I use raw shea butter to keep my hands in good shape and keep from cracking when I play African drums. When I purchased this batch, I was extremely disappointed with the smell. The odor was quite unpleasant, and I ended up throwing it away. I probably could have scraped out some of the oldest parts of it to salvage, but it was not worth the effort.

I will be buying it fresh elsewhere in the future. The smell has nothing to do with it being raw and unrefined. I have used raw shea butter before. It was just very old and spoiling.

I am very disappointed in this product. Make sure to ask the seller how fresh it is. If it smells like cigarette smoke, it's too old.

I love shea butter.I use it for my hair and skin.My whole family uses it.However, I will not be purchasing for this supplier again.The Shea Butter I received was nice and soft.It was not smelly as the other reviewer indicated.But it was dirty.It has lots of little black and brown stuff in it.Some were like shells and others like rocks or just dirt. I will find another supplier.

For those that complained that the shea butter had a smell, you should have just done research. You should have realized that UNreFINED shea butter does infact have an odor, the great price that you paid for it did not indicate that it was processed to remove the smell, which can be done by simply boiling it to remove what then floats to the top, also by adding some essential oils.
