While most sunscreens these days protect against sunburn, did you know that very few of them actually protect against photodamage? Only two sunscreen ingredients protect against the long UVAI rays that cause photodamage (brown spots, wrinkles, etc); zinc oxide and Parsol 1789. Zinc Oxide protects a broader range of these rays than does Parsol 1789.
This Skinceuticals sunscreen has zinc oxide and it goes on without any white film or greasiness-perfect for daily use on the face. While Neutrogena Dry Touch suncreens feel more invisible on the skin (you can't even tell it is on except for the smell) and is a good alternative (has Parsol 1789), I still prefer the Skinceuticals for the added protection and virtually no scent whatsoever. Since it's expensive, I tend to use it just on the face and use a cheaper (like Neutrogena) sunscreen on the body when out in the sun.

Skinceuticals Ultimate UV Defense SPF 30 is a good product and layers well under makeup. When I purchased it, I didn't have any prior expectations for what it would feel like on the skin (I purchased it to mainly use on the face, neck, and chest). It leaves quite a moist, sticky feel on the skin--I was personally surprised by the feel of it on the skin but was able to overlook it (if you don't think you can overlook something like that, then this sunscreen might not be for you). The finish on the skin is incredible though--leaves a natural radiance that I have yet to encounter with other sunscreens I've used on the face (some other suncreens dry to more of a matte finish, and some others leave an unnatural-looking dewiness on the skin).I will say, however, that it's not the easiest of sunscreens to blend onto the skin because of its relatively thicker formulation; don't worry, it just takes a little more work to blend it in.Because it is on the moisturizing side, I find that I can skip using a separate moisturizer before putting this on--it's nice to skip a step.I consider myself as having 'normal' skin (normal to a little dry in the winter, normal to a little oily in the summer), so someone who is on the oilier side may not like the feel of this on the skin, while this would probably suit most with dry-to-normal skin. For someone who is on the oilier side, I might suggest Skinceuticals Sheer Physical Defense SPF 50 ('normal' skin individuals could get away with using this too.I just personally didn't get it because I have heard that the packaging design makes using this one quite messy to use--something about the cap and things spilling out. Also, I don't think I need SPF 50--I don't think most people do unless their work requires them to be outside a lot).
UPDATE:Everything that I've mentioned above still holds, but I have dropped my rating from 5/5 to 3/5.I'm pretty certain that this product is breaking me out (the biggest signs are breakouts in places I very rarely break out). Therefore, I think my skin is reacting to something in this product. One of the unfortunate things about this product is that the company doesn't provide you a complete ingredients list on the box the product comes in, nor are they posted on the product tube.I'm currently weighing whether I want to still continue using this product and deal with the breakouts or search for something different...
Excellent sunscreen/moisturizer.To people with darker tans or skin pigment, it may give a whitish appearance due to sun blocking ingredients. However, for fair skinned people, it is great.I do not use an addititional moisturizer with this product.Usually I dust a powder (and blush) over it because it can appear slightly shiny in hot weather. This is not a problem in cooler temps.I have fair skin that is sensitive and easily breaks out. My dermatologist recommended I use this product daily on my face to prevent sun damage. I was skeptical but it works great. I have been using this product for years and never had a problem. I highly recommend it!
