This product has great ingredients no nasty chemicals such as parabens or chemical sunscreens.It relies solely on zinc oxide for sunscreen.This is even better than most all natural, mineral sunscreens, as some have issues with the other comm mineral, titanium oxide (I disagree, but I' m hardly militant on the issue).It's less greasy than most, and I find the scent just fine.I like that it seems more waterproof than most similar products.I would buy this again, but mostly use it where I want the extra waterproofing.It is a bit pricey, though I cN feel better knowing that some of the cost goes to a good cause.
Otherwise, I suggest considering Jason mineral sunscreen SPF30 (not the 50 version which uses chemical sunscreens to boost SPF).
For anyone wondering, sunscreens are either mineral or chemical.Chemical has the advantages of being much more waterproof and higher SPF.More than SPF 30 is meaningless as far as I can tell (ask your dermatologist that's what mine says, as well as my research).And the reason for the waterproofing is worrisome.Chemicals work by absorbing under the top skin.They are thus not on the surface to be washed off after a short time from application.However, this means some goes systemic.Some (Ralph Nader's group for example) say the chemical structures of these sunscreens is similar to hormone disruptive substances, or are shown to be hormonally disruptive.Is this a real haelth risk?The answer seems to be that no one really knows.So why chance it?
Mineral sunscreens are better in that they absorb more of the UV spectrum, and they remain a coating on the skin surface.Reapply after going in the water, they say.I have gone diving without reapplying, however, and if I try a bit to stay out of long stints in direct sun I do not burn (even though as a red haired very light skinned person I am highly susceptible to burn).
Which leads me to one last note if you are anywhere close to my skin type and live in an moderately sunny area, use a sunscreen daily!
I bought this for my husband as he always needs something that is 'sweat proof'. This smells really bad, that it irritated his sinuses. I could definitely smell the lotion when I was near him. It did work great as far as everything that it said that it would do, but he could only wear it a coupld of time before he stopped using it completely. It's not sticky or gloopy like other sweat proof sunscreens, so that is a plus. I would recommend this only if you don't mind the strong smell, and wont be near people that have allergies or are sensitive to strong smells.
