I purchased this product after using BullFrog Superblock SPF 50 Lotion for my son. He is a very fair red head and traditional sunscreens were not protecting him. BullFrog Superblock SPF 50 Lotion does the trick. I wanted a spray version of that and purchased this product as BullFrog does not have an SPF 50 spray. However, this product does not contain Titanium Dioxide, the key ingredient that keeps my son from burning. It also leaves a sticky after feel. My daughter said she felt like a plastic doll wearing this product. Back to the lotion for us. This product was a disappointment.I purchased this product to avoid the tedious application process of a lotion. For myself, this size bottle lasts less than 2 full body applications.I thought I was applying it too liberally, but even after more modest application with a second bottle I received the same result.I have since gone back to cheap lotion. It's a pain, but I usually get 8-10 full body applications with a family sized bottle and I don't have to guess how much I have left.
As for the product itself, it works well.It does leave a sticky residue, but I find it less offensive than the greasy feel of lotion.
The title pretty much says it all.I love the convenience of these sprays, but they seem to clog after a while, even though there is clearly plenty of product left in the can.I have had the same problem with some of the Coppertone sprays, but somehow expected more from the pricier Bullfrog. After a full day on the boat with a large amount of time in the ocean, not even a hint of a sunburn.90+ degrees with high humidity in the Florida sun and this product did its job well.Given I am not as fair skinned as the other reviewer's son (although blonde haired), I had no issues. In all fairness, I have a Bimini top that provides some shade and did reapply once about halfway through the day.I also tried the SPF 50 cream earlier in the summer, but moved to this spray instead. While the SPF 50 cream is "bulletproof", it is much more difficult to apply and rub in with its near paste-like consistency.I took one star off for the slight stickiness that was felt after the spray was applied. This, however, is consistent with every other spray sunscreen I have tried.Would I buy it again?Yes and just did.Pros:
1. The smell is delicious!I used this on a trip to the USVI with some friends and on the first early morning after I applied it one of my friends came out and wanted to know what smelled so good. It's hard to describe, but definitely island-y.
2. I never burned.I'm not a very fair skinned person to begin with, which is why I wanted a lower, but effective SPF.
3. It's good around water!I wore it in the ocean (swimming and snorkeling) and at the beach (reading).
4. It is rated very well on the EWG's cosmetic database.
5. It's super easy to apply!I was able to cover myself without any assistance.
Cons:
1. If you spray a lot, you can feel it on your skin (kind of a little sticky, but it did seem to go away).
2. As one reviewer noted, the nozzle can clog with disuse. It's kind of like hairspray in that respect.I let a half used container sit in my closet for several months (all winter and then some), and it was a little clogged. It was easy to unclog, though, with my finger nail and a damp cloth.
Why I'm still giving it 5 stars... It worked great, is EWG-approved, and smells GREAT.I was really disappointed when I sent to my local Target and they were out of it.I ended up using the mosquito & sun spray, which also works well and is an excellent choice for camping, but it doesn't smell half as good and isn't as easy to apply.
