I chose the brand Avene because of its ingredients. An article from the Environmental Working Group said that the FDA was dawdling in approving sunscreen ingredients that are approved in Europe (/). Avene contains the ingredients Tinosorb S and Tinosorb M, about which the EWG said: "Tinosorb S and M could be great solutions but are not yet available in the U.S. " Go to the site and read the information under the heading "8. Then, I chose Avene's Sunscreen Lotion for children because it has no fragrance, and the review of it said it worked well for the whole family. I've used it myself (adult female) and am very happy with how it feels on my face--rather, how it DOESN'T feel. My previous sunscreen is a nano-zinc formula that costs about the same as the Avene but makes the skin on my face feel "crawly" and suffocated.

The Avene lotion is drippy but if applied with caution will not escape onto my clothes or the floor. And, once it's on, I forget about it. I don't spend much time outdoors, but have pale skin that freckles easily, so just from driving the car I've had lots of freckles on hands and the left arm. There are fewer freckles since I've been using Avene every time I go out of the house--therefore I figure the product is working.

Avene's ingredients are unlike those of any sunscreens marketed in the USA. Therefore, even if you need a sunscreen for long-term exposure to the sun, or for swimming, I still think it's worth a try for anyone who's not happy with their current product, because this one's so different.

The greatest testimony possible is that my husband is willing to use it, since it's the only product yet that doesn't make his skin feel suffocated and sticky.

My family and I were in Rome, Italy one hot, late July and we forgot the sunscreen to use for us and my 12 month old son. So, we walked into the Pharmacia and asked for kids sunscreen. This Avene product is what they gave us. We walked everywhere in Rome, never once using the train and we were staying about 2 miles from the historic site in Rome. So, there was a lot of walking and a lot of time spent in the sun.

On the first day we noticed no one got burnt or even had a tan line. The second daysame thing. And in Rome, in July, that seemed unthinkable. We were there for five days and it was so hot we even dunked my 12 month old in the fountains to cool off and the sunscreen still stayed on and protected. My son also has extremely sensitive skin and bad eczema and this added extra moisture too.

We were so excited to see that we could buy it in America we bought two bottles. We all use it adults and children. I would not say it goes a long way but, I would also not say it is used quickly-all depends on how often you put it on. We bought two for the summer as we have a pool we go to once a week and we may have some left over. When we used it in rome, this size for all three of us (2 adults and one toddler) only used about half over a five day period and we put it on everyday.

IT is the ONLY sunblock we buy. You really cannot go wrong.

I did a lot of research online about the chemicals in the US sunscreens.This was one of the brands recommended by environmental working group.This is the only place I have found it in the US.The active ingredients:Tinosorb S, Tinosorb M are not FDA approved in the US.It was quite pricey than I am used to spending.I had a friend in Canada look for the product and it was cheaper on Amazon.The product is on the thin side as previously written but when you know that in advance you are careful and I have not had any wasted on the ground.Easy to apply because it is thin.I have used it at the beach and the pool in conjunction with board shorts and swim shirts.I think it will last the whole season for myself and my two children.So when I think about $29 total for the whole summer...that is not too bad.The peace of mind knowing that the chemicals used are not endocrine disruptors like the ones used in the US is priceless.

If you want REAL sun protection you need to find products that Tinosorb M and /or Tinosorb B.It is anyone's guess why the FDA has not approved these two ingredients, but they are widely available in Europe (and have been for many years;see Enviormental Working Group site for details!) and offer superior and real sun protection.

I bought a couple of products in Italy this year that contained both M and B and they work great!

My skin is actually too sensitive to wear mineral-based lotions containing zinc or titanium oxide.Well this sunscreen is one of them, and although I carefully checked the ingredients and description of this product before purchasing there was NO NOTATION of that in the product description or in the reviews.My skin broke out after the first application.In addition, this product leaves the usual "ghost" white film over your skin when it dries. I love other Avene products that I've tried so this was a big disappointment.

Although I tried to return the product to Pharmamundi this is the response that I received: "Due to

Buyer beware when purchasing from Pharmamundi. If it doesn't work for you you WILL NOT be able to return the product for any reason.
