I never write reviews but I figured this may be 'the' product all women should know about and I can't be so selfish to keep it to myself as sunscreen is the most essential step in preserving a youthful skin... if dermatologists don't lie.

GOOD CHANCES IT WILL WORK FOR YOU SINCE..:

I don't have nice skin at all + I'm very picky -> if this works for me it will work for a lot of people: My skin is quite oily ... large pores that are hard to conceal + get oily through the day. Also, I'm black though on the light skin side so I assume it covers a wide range of complexions despite the fact it's tinted... think 'neutral-one-color-fits-all' maybe except for 'definite dark' :(

A HEALTHY CHOICE:

There's quite a bit of controversy out there about what product is safe or not including parabens. I've done enough research to figure out it's wiser to stay on the safer side in the meantime.... I ran an ingredients analysis on Cosdna.com and checked the rating by the Environmental Rating Group.... And this product gets my approval stamp... Among other things, it's:

paba free

not one comedogenic ingredient (and not oily, it's a gel)

not one irritating ingredient

natural and efficient! because it has the best sunscreen products which are mineral Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. It has a pretty high rating from the ERG, meaning you also get good actual protection from the sun.

PRACTICAL TO GET BEAUTY IN CHECK:

My only concern after putting so much effort in finding the 'wise' product (and that's very hard to find) was how it would feel and wear on my face, and fit into my lifestyle (btw, I live in tropical wheather)... and that's probably the best part..... Why it rocks:

The gel consistency makes it as good as any great makeup base to hide pores (say Smashbox)...

only better because it's tinted so 2 steps in 1... well 3 (yes the sunscreen). It gives me the appearance of a more uniform complexion and I even use it as dark circle concealer and it helps.

Because of the mineral sunscreen ingredients, it doesn't need to be the first product to put on your face for it to be efficient, unlike chemical sunscreens, and you wouldn't really need to wait for a while either before sun exposure (also unlike chemical sunscreens.) I learned that from Dermtv.com

I took a picture with it. To be honest, I appear fairer than in reality (like any mineral sunscreen would do on a photo), so be careful about that part, but it's nothing I couldn't live with.

it's very water resistant... say if you sweat a lot.

Do I really need to add: not oily, not shiny... feels light all understated.

Last, my only concern would be to apply too much because it looks so good... in beauty they say less is more... except for sunscreens !! (apply liberally ;))

I hope you will like it too. It even comes with photo sensitive piece of paper and a 'solar index table' so you know how much to apply on that given day. What more do you want?... Probably something that moisturizes as well...? Well sorry, get a moisturizer if you need one or the lotion version that's not tinted / not a gel:) Next time I will get more than one the tube is much smaller than I thought...

This sunscreen, in my opinion, is about as perfect as it gets --especially for those with oily and/or acne prone skin. Its gel texture is light, and even though non-comedogenic is an unregulated, therefor meaningless, term, this sunscreen (for me) does not clog pores or exacerbate break-outs (and this is the ONLY sunscreen I can say that about).

The only drawback is the tacky after-feel, which someone else noted, too: the product is sticky, for sure, after application, and it doesn't go away. I don't consider that a deal-breaker. Also, it's difficult to watch off your face, as the water resistance is strong. But the fact that it's so light and non-irritating and shine-reducing (I think this product would work best for oily skin) makes it not only a real winner, but a rarity among sunscreens.

Bought this sunscreen yesterday in Target on a whim, I've tried many others that would claim that they are shine free, absorb quickly, etc.Even more expensive ones, but always looked like an oil sleek and felt that you have some sort of film on your skin.I have a very sensitive skin, it breaks out from everything immediately!This one is oh yes! heaven.Went on very smoothly, lightly, as if not even there, didn't have to rub it in, just kind of disappeared into my skin, wonderful clean feeling and no shine!I hope this one will be around for a while, because I am sold!

P.S. at the end of the day my skin is still feeling clean and fresh.

I really like this sunblock for my face, much more than any of the others I've used.

California Baby SPF 30+ Fragrance Free Sunscreen 2.9 oz

I'm late to the game and just realized that there are lots of harmful agents in even the supposedly gentle sunscreen for kids.We went thru testing lots of sunscreens, but b/c I don't want the chemical blocks (anything that doesn't have titanium or zinc oxide) that'd react with skin, we usually use Bull Frog Solarsphere (which is pretty good) but it's very thick and white, even though it does the job done. I was forced to use chemical blocks (most of the products on the market) but non are as effective as the physical block sunscreens (ie, those with titanium oxide).I was so happy to have found California Baby sunscreen at a friend's recommendation.Before I bought it I cautiously read the reviews on Amazon, especially the negative ones.I'm glad I did, b/c apparently there are different types of California Baby, some aren't PABA free.

This one, the one says fragrant free, does NOT contain PABA.So please read the ingredients carefully before you order (words that ends with -paraben is the one you don't want to have in your sunscreen).

I had no problem with spreading this white cream evenly onto my skin (and I have very tanned skin).It is not streaky, messy, and sticky.It goes on very smoothly, and my skin is only a slight shade lighter, very slight, once I fully spread it on my skin.

This product does contain titanium oxide, so it's supposed to remain ONTOP of the skin, not inside the skin and being absorbed (i read some complained about this). That's how they block the UV ray, and that's why the physical blocks don't irritate skin and are safer for young children to use.If you want something that's clearly absorbed into the skin, use chemical blocks (just about most other products don't have titanium oxide), it creates chemical reactions with your skin and supposedly help block UV rays. But now to look at all that news reports about the fact that there are carcinogens inside most of the sunscreens, I'd think twice about ever using chemical blocks again.

Although I love California Baby's bath products and their Sunscreen Stick, I was surprisingly disappointed in this product.I applied it very generously on my toddler's arms and legs, and it did not seem to protect her for more than a half hour in the sun. Additionally, she has very sensitive skin and I found that it irritated her arms with small bumps. Perhaps for a baby that is not very fair skinned or sensitive, this product works better.

Coarse or fine particles of titanium dioxide are safe and effective at deflecting and absorbing UV light, protecting the skin, but consumers should avoid using products with micronized mineral pigments, either in sunscreens or colour cosmetics.

This is a fabulous sunblock for kids. It spreads easily on the skin, and is not "tacky" feeling to the touch, like some other sunblocks we've tried. Yes, it turns the skin whitish but that is part of how it is able to be an effective sunblock without the nasty chemicals present in other sunblocks. Children have thinner skin than adults so it is even more important to use natural products on them, as they absorb more of whatever you are putting on them for my child, I would rather have her look whit-ish than be absorbing chemicals through her skin. I've tried the Neutragena sunscreen, Coppertone Sport spray sunscreen, and the generic Rite Aid pump sunscreen.I like Neutragena's the best because the spray is controlled, the smell isn't too strong, and I like the cooling sensation when applied.The only negatives are that it does still smell (I highly recommend applying it outdoors) and it recommends applying at least 15 minutes before going outside.

The Coppertone sport sprayed all over the place and had a very strong smell.Because the spray was not well controlled, it didn't last long at all.It only lasted about a week of applying it every day, while the Neutragena has lasted much longer.The Rite Aid pump spray is good too because it's easy to control the amount of sunscreen that comes out, but it has to be upright to spray, so it can be a little hard to apply.

Overall the Neutrogena sunblock is very good.I found it at Target for just $8-9 though much cheaper than on Amazon!

I disagree with the comment that this spray does not have a strong smell. It's not quite perfume, but compared to some "traditional" sunscreen lotions, it has a very strong floral scent.

Scent aside, this product made me break out in hives everywhere that I used it (arms, neck, shoulders, back). Obviously, I used the product only once, and then gave the remainder to a friend.

I like other Neutrogena products, including some of their other "spray" (though non-aerosol) products like the Sunless Tanning Spray, but I would strongly *not* recommend this product to anyone with 1) chemical/fragrance sentitivities or allergies (or with family/friends with such sensitivities) or 2) sensitive skin.

This lotion has a fresh light scent and works great. Its a nice base builder with just a bit of DHA. The only problem I have (with most Sweedish Beautyz lotions) is that it is sometimes hard to rub in; the more you rub, the whiter it appears in your skin. My dermatologist recommended this sunscreen for me. I have rosacea, and I needed to start wearing sunscreen everyday. My wife and I both like this sunscreen so far it is the best we have found, but it is still not perfect as it is a bit greasy.That being said, it is MUCH less greasy than most other sunscreens.

My only concern is the nanoparticles used in this sunscreen (and others).Since there are no long-term safety studies performed on nanoparticles, we are a bit concerned that the nanoparticles will be absorbed through our skin and accumulate in our organs (as the studies suggest they do) and cause problems later on.

My dermatologist recommended this stuff.She says that true sun blocks contain zinc-oxide or "z-cote".I have a skin condition called melasma that is aggravated by sun exposure.I especially have to protect my face.This is the only sun screen that doesn't feel oily and does sting when I put it on.I think you get a lot for the price.I will continue to buy this stuff as long as they make it.

Most aspects of this sunblock deserve 5 stars.The texture is amazing, silky.If I have exfoliated recently, it's invisible after being rubbed in.Doesn't burn my eyes.Effective sun protection.Best of all, I haven't had a breakout all summer--even the times I left it on overnight.

That's pretty good, right?Ah, but if your skin has dry or flaky patches, you'll need a system.I've never used a moisturizer that doesn't break me out, so I didn't try adding a lotion, but some people have luck with that pairing.Otherwise, exfoliating first solves the problem, but who wants to exfoliate several times a week?

Getting it off is a pain.Products strong enough to remove it are too harsh, and I ended up with cracked, peeling face, mid-winter style.(Hence going 2 days before washing it off.)Here's what works for me: I use coconut oil, rub it in.This dissolves the sunblock.Then I wash my face with tea tree oil wash (Body Shop) to remove the coconut oil, rinsing as quickly as possible so that I don't totally kill my skin.Yes, coconut oil is supposed to be highly comedogenic, but I haven't had a breakout, like I said.I use Parachute oil from the local Indian grocer as that's what I had on hand for pre-shampoo deep conditioning.

So while it's not perfect, it's the only effective sunblock that hasn't broken me out.If I find something better for the face, I'll still use this on the body.Just hope that nanoparticle cancer thing isn't a thing after all.

Coppertone ultraGuard Sunscreen Lotion, UVA/UVB Protection, SPF 30, 8-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2)

Bottle says "non-greasy" and "waterproof", but that doesn't stop it from getting into my eyes, causing a burning sensation and ruining my disposable contact lenses (at $6 each, they usually last 2 weeks).

I work outdoors all year in coastal areas of South Florida (since 1979), and I have developed increasing respect for the sun as my dermatologist's bills keep getting steeper and the scalpels keep slicing more off of me. And, though I tried this product in 2010-2011 but found it was not the answer to my needs. It runs into my eyes as soon as the sweating starts. And, once in, it is very hard to get out of your eyes and ruins disposable (soft, permeable) contact lens instantly and permanently. When you have something irritating your eye, it requires being prepared, will-power, and a reasonably good memory to restrain your finger until you can find a clean cloth to use (instead of that contaminated finger). I apparently lack at least one of these, as I have at least one daily disappointment with this sunscreen.

The Environmental Working Group website (a relatively new site that rates sunscreens for performance and safety) gave this product a middling rating of 5 (on scale of 1-10, 1 being best) and a "caution" advisory, citing "HIGH" health concerns based on the inclusion of a few hazardous ingredients. I won't be buying this Coppertone product again. Until I find something better, I suspect that relying on long-sleeved clothing and broad brim hats alone may be safer than using this product. The next problem is finding a good value; I am in the subtropical sun nearly every doy of the year and can't afford to use sunscreens that cost $30 or more per ounce.

Also, I will have to look further into the impartiality of EWG's ratings, as they sell many of the sunscreens they ranked highest definitely a red flag.I wish Consumer Reports would update their otherwise excellent July 2010 review of sunscreens to address the health / safety issues EWG mentions.

So, until I know more about the health risk, I won't buy this one again. Now that I have read the poor rating and health risks at Environmental Work Group website (rates sunscreens), I may not even use the rest of the bottle. I rely on a broad-brimmed hat, long-sleeved shirt and long pants (yes, year-round and yes, it gets hot but I drink a lot of water and have learned to not mind the heat so much, especially when I compare it to the various skin cancers) for most of my sun protection, but face, neck and ears still get more sun than they should, and even a typical long-sleeved cotton t-shirt is only rated SPF 7 (less if wet), which explains why I am still tan above the belt line, despite covering up pretty well. Unfortunately, the higher SPF polyester shirts are ruined by their first contact with a thorn or other snag; loops of thread pull out and won't go back, but if you cut them off the shirt develops long ugly runs, and is even more prone to snagging. Cotton shirts are much (MUCH) more durable and, occasionally, I find heavy weight cotton shirts (any color works better than white, though white is coolest) that provide a higher SPF (though they seldom mention what it might actually be).

I've had skin cancer eleven times, so I'm religious about applying it every day, throughout the year.This product has pretty decent protection.But what I really like is that the smell harkens me back to my childhood of the hot California summers.

Compared to other bronzers, it's cheap... but works the same as the $40-$50 ones. It has a light perfumey smell, it's amazing and I always get compliments on my 'perfume'. Doesn't rub off on clothes. Coppertone Sunscreen, Oil Free, Foaming Lotion, Fragrance Free, SPF 75+, 6 oz.

I don't like oily sunscreens, especially when using them on my face. The Coppertone Foaming Lotion 75+ SPF was okay when I used it on my arms and neck area. When I used it on my face though, it felt heavy and oily even after I rubbed it in. It says oil-free but it doesn't feel that way. It's not advertised as sweatproof and that much is certain. After walking 10mins in 85F and 70% humidity, not only was my face melting, but it stung my eyes. Even after flushing them out with water and mild soap several times, I could still feel it. The foaming was also nothing particularly special. You wind up having to smear it around like a regular lotion sunblock anyway.

I recommend Coppertone Sports Ultra Sweatproof and Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch instead.

I love that is product is a foam and it doesn't have that sun block smell!! The only draw for me is I bought specifically for my face sense it is non-comedogenic and non-irritating its totally too shinny on my face lol but a lil foundation powder or a translucent powder does the trick.

I have used the product 3 times now and it is fabulous. Leaves my a gorgeous natural looking bronze. Even on my face. I was my face 3 hours after application and use my regular facial skin care before spraying and after so that my face isn't too dark, because I'm 41 years old and darker on the face tends to make you look less vibrant and youthful, and I get a nice warm glow.. After using the product, I shower 6 hours later and the color lasts 5 to 6 days. You need to exfoliate, shower so your skin is hydrated, but dry off. Then spray. Dont dress for at least 20 min and wear loose clothing. I cover my hair when spraying to then after 5-7 hours I can rinse off if I want and then dress. Dont use any lotions or body washes that contain ANY Mineral oil.. Jergens has an all natural hydrating lotion at walmart for 5 bucks that works and does not take off your tan. Tanning salons sell body washes with no mineral oils, or get one of your own with NO MINERAL OIL. My tan lasts a week and looks amazing. It does not dry out my skin. It's also very very fine mist so very easy to get even.. cover your feet and hands thickly with lotion or wear bobby socks that cover most of your feet then after spraying finely mist top of your feet with toes and bottom drenched in lotion.. this keeps your feet from getting too dark. Exfoliating first is also mandatory.
