Dora the Explorer Spray SPF 30 Complete UVA/UVB Protection
I gave this 4 stars, because it's really nice for everything except being in the water.Our kids are 6, 4, & 1, and I prefer using this over "heavier" sunscreens when they are playing outside.We did try a day in the pool using this, and unfortunately got a nasty sunburn :(.Maybe we didn't apply often enough, but my kids are not interested in getting out every 30 minutes to reapply sunscreen.So we found a heavier product for swimming days.For everything else I recommend it!It's moisturizing too!
Roc Retinol Correxion Sensitive Cream
I've used this periodically at night. I do have sensitive skin.I'll echo what a previous poster said why the need to add fragrance?The product irritates my skin (I use the sensitive night cream), and has a very strong masking perfume to it, but that leaves me to question whether I am having a reaction to the Retinol or whether it's the overpowering fragrance. I have been known to react to strong fragrances on my face, and as such typically avoid them. Had I known this would be so overpowering, I'd have avoided it altogether.
My biggest problem with Roc is that I've found absolutely no published information regarding the percentage of Retinol you are getting in each of their products. So, to ASSUME that any potential reaction is actually from the Retinol in the product, especially given the heavy perfumy fragrance, is questionable.Having never used Retinol products before, I am in the dark.
I am switching to Afirm 2x a product with .30% Retinol (other available formulas are Afirm 1x, .15% Retinol for very sensitive skin, as well as Afirm 3x, .60% Retinol for more tolerant skin) -at least this way I can better gauge the amount of Retinol my skin can handle without worrying about unnecessary strong masking fragrances irritating my skin.
In the list of ingredients, "Fragrance" is listed as the 21st ingredient, and Retinol is the 34th of a total of 38 ingredients, if I counted them all correctly.What this tells me is that there is more fragrance in the product than there is Retinol. For purposes of fact, ingredients are listed in order of highest concentration to lowest. Roc fails to provide us with the final concentration of Retinol. What a shame.
I'm not a doctor, but as a consumer, I'll share my opinions based on my own research:
I've come across various claims that the product "prepares" you for Retinoids. Meaning, you use this product before switching to actual retinoic acid products (i.e. Retin-A). With either Retinol or Retinoic Acids, your skin learns to tolerate increased dosages over time, with the lessening of negative side effects in the long term.
I would suggest to anyone interested in anti-aging products to perform their own research on the differences between Retinol vs. Retinoic Acid.
Facts on Retinol vs. Retinoic Acid (aka Retin-A):
Retin-A is one of several brand names on the market for "tretinoin" also referred to as "trans-retinoic acid" or simply "retinoic acid".
Retinol, on the other hand, is simply a form of Vitamin A and has a less direct effect on the skin than retinoic acid.
(Another fact: Vitamins A & D are the ONLY vitamins that can be absorbed by the skin. Vitamin E simply sit on the surface, thereby acting as an emulsifier or moisturizer, but application of Vitamin E onto the skin provides zero benefits in terms of vitamin absorption. So don't think that buying a Vitamin E skin cream is benefitting your vitamin E intake requirements).
While Retinol has fewer side effects, it also takes longer to see visible results as opposed to prescription based retinoic acid.In other words, Retinol is simply less effective than retinoic acid.High concentrations of Retinol can be just as irritating as retinoic acid products, however.
Some people alleviate the side effects (dryness and peeling) of retinoic acids with the increased use of moisturizers (moisturizers with hyaluronic acids are beneficial as hyaluronic acids help to hydrate the skin). So, if your skin can tolerate retinoic acid and you learn the dosage that works for you, you are likely better off using retinoic acid products as opposed to Retinols, if you are seeking faster and more visible results.The only caveat being that Retinol products are available over the counter, whereas Retin-Aproducts (retinoic acid) are by prescription only.
The bottom line:
Since Roc doesn't tell us what percentage of Retinol the consumer is actually getting, coupled with the hefty price tag, and the fact that the not-so-pleasant fragrance is overpowering (and completely unnecessary, especially in a sensitive skin product wth?), I'm giving this two stars.
My "blind" assumption is that I'm having a reaction to the high concentration of fragrance as opposed to the UNKNOWN concentration of Retinol.
If anyone says there is little or no scent to this product, I'd suggest that their sense of smell must have been severely impaired by a cold or some other ailment. The smell reminds me of a bottle of age-old cold cream in your grandmother's boudoir.

My aging skin shows the size of my large pores and brown spots.Over the past year ROC Retinol Correxion has gradually smoothed things out: pores, blackheads and spots are less noticeable.I developed persistent red patches near my jaw with the regular strength (even after reducing the frequency of application) so I switched to the ROC for sensitive skin.I still respond to the weaker strength for sensitive skin and can use it each night without irritation, even underneath my lower eyelids.Retinol has caused mild peeling of my skin only to reveal healthier new skin.There is less peeling after a few months of use. I was a little skeptical when I originally tried this product about 4 years ago or so....it is so tiny and inexpensive, it's probably not that good, or so I thought.Well, 4 years later I still buy this product and I use it over my regular spf moisturizer.I am fair skinned (not vampira fair, but pretty white...) the honey color is perfect for a bit of a healthy glow.This makes my skin feel nice and has a light orange fragrance.A little tube lasts a long time, which is another big plus in my book.With it being that inexpensive you can afford to put one in your bag, one in the overnight and keep one for home.Overall a great product at an extremely reasonable price.Give it a go, you don't have much to lose on this one!

I was worried originally that the lid would easily come off in my pocketbook. I wanted to try this because I love the eos shave lotion line, so I thought I would give this a try. This is now my FAVORITE lip balm. The honeysuckle flavor is nice and smells good but it is not overwhelming, and it moisturizes really well without feeling waxy or thick. I plan to put this in a lot of Christmas presents this year!

I think this is a great lip balm. I don't think they're particularly special being organic or otherworldly or anything spiritual. There are other brands I like too. But this works well, smells nice and doesn't leave a lot of gunk in the corners and edges of your lips with frequent use. What I LOVE is the funky shape. I like to use those big open bag-like purses (of course, I have kids), but it's so impossible to find my chapstick. This thing stands out and I can grab it easily, no matter how cluttered my purse gets. Same thing in the bathroom drawer or the desk. Open the drawer and Oh Look! Big read egg stands right out and I don't have to dig around. SERIOUS lifesaver!!! Especially when you're grabbing for your chapstick as frequently as I am.But a word of warning. My 2 year old son loves it too. But in a different way. Fortunately it's still usable with teeth marks.

I have been using this oil in tanning beds for about 3 years. I do understand that there are oils that are petroleum based that will harm tanning beds, this oil is all natural and will not harm a tanning bed. Also, I get a darker tan with this oil than any magic 100.00 bottles of lotions they are always trying to sell me when I go in to tan. This oil is all natural there is nothing in it that will harm your skin or cause cancer. Also it does not clog your pores since it is not petroleum based. Tanning is so good for you but can be hard on the skin, this oil keeps my skin smooth and not dried out. It has no strong scent to give me headaches or sinus problems. My husband also uses it for tanning and loves it.
Dr Mercola touts this as a good oil to use in his tanning beds... but it leaves incredible sticky residue on everything it touches. If it gets on clothing or towels, it stinks for many washes and will destroy anything else it's washed with in the washer. DO NOT USE IN A TANNING BED. It leaves a sticky residue that hot soapy water washes won't even remove.
We are very disappointed with these side effects and now we're stuck with two bottles we prob won't use unless we go to the beach.

I'm currently on my second bottle of Mercola's tanning oil. I recently took it with me on vacation to the Dalmatian Coast (Very hot this time of year) and it helped me get a lovely tan. BurnOut SPF 30+ KIDS
I've tried so many of the chemical-free sunscreens on the market including California Baby (stick and lotion), Sunny Days (stick), Ocean Potion Naturals, UV Natural Baby, Neutrogena Sensitive Skin mineral sunblock, Alba Botanica "SUN" kids mineral sunscreen...to name the ones I can remember. I like BurnOut Kids the best for several reasons: 1) it works well even on my son's pasty-white skin 2) it's not greasy at all 3) it blends in really well and doesn't leave you looking too white. 4) And most important, it got really safe marks on the EWG (Environmental Working Group) web site. The only negative is it leaves your skin with a slightly tacky feeling, but to me it's much better than a greasy feeling.
I live in the southern US and spend time on the beach. I can assure you that, properly applied, there is NO tanning with this sunscreen. I can spend two entire days on a Gulf Coast beach and return home without a single tan line.

Forget that this says for kids...I'm 29 and my girlfriend and I have used this product for 3 months. In fact, I spent about 7 hours in the Miami, FL sun yesterday on the boat and have no sunburn whatsoever. I applied this all over my body before we went out and did not reapply. Only went swimming once though (about halfway through the day) and did not towel off. Not only was I protected but I was not all pasty white the sunscreen rubs in well not as well as the chemical stuff but none of my friends noticed anything on my skin.
It took me a long time but I found this sunscreen was the only one on Amazon to meet my criteria:
1) Highly rated with a good number of reviews
2) Scores no higher than a 1 on the EWG Skin Deep database
3) Verified and openly NON nano zinc oxide
4) Zinc oxide only (no chemicals or titanium dioxide)
5) A price that I can actually afford
Now more detail:
1) My first ever experience with physical sunblock (using zinc oxide, I think it was a Neutrogena product about 3-4 years ago) as opposed to the chemical variety was not good. It hardly rubbed in at all, left me very pasty white (with little white specks all over me), and came off in a cloud in the pool. I was not eager to try it again...but I read many bad things about the chemicals in modern sunscreens and while not perfect itself, zinc oxide is the better choice. One of the reasons I love Amazon is because of the reviews I try not to buy any products that aren't highly rated. For me, Burn Out sunscreen lives up to the solid reviews it's earned here.
2) The Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep website that ranks products based on their danger/toxicity scores this product a 1 on a scale of 0-10 (0 being the safest). I could not find any sunscreen products that scored a 0 so naturally I aimed for the next best score: 1.
3) This one is important. The first thing I found was that companies were using smaller "micronized" zinc oxide particles because they reduced the whiteness of the product and allowed it to rub in to the skin better. Obviously I don't want a sunscreen that's going to leave me looking ghostly white. However, it appears that some went too far and started having nano particles of zinc oxide. The danger is that nano zinc oxide may penetrate your skin and be absorbed into your blood stream you don't want that to happen. Many products I checked out either did not specify the size of their zinc oxide or were dangerously close to nano size. I found this easily on Burn Out's website in the FAQs:
"There are no nanoparticles in any BurnOut products. A nanoparticle is any particle that is 100 nanometers or smaller; many products using nanoparticles use a particle size of 20-60 nm. The zinc oxide in BurnOut has a minimum particle size of 1 micron (1000 nanometers 10x the size of the largest nanoparticle)."
As you can see, there is no danger of finding any nano particles in Burn Out Sunscreen.
4) The latest recommendation is to avoid chemicals and to choose zinc oxide as the physical sunblock rather than titanium dioxide. So...zinc oxide only.
5) Some sunscreens are like $10/ounce. I just can't afford that! At $5.29 an ounce ($17.99 for 3.4 ounces) this is an expensive sunscreen but worth it, in my opinion.

This is my favorite, favorite sunscreen to use on my children.It's a runny lotion and rubs in so easily.My two-year-olds will not tolerate me rubbing in thick sunscreen all over their faces.With this, they don't struggle as much and I can rub it in fast and easy.It can leave the slightest paleness to your skin but it really isn't bad.My kids are half Greek; my daughter is olive skinned and my son is out-right tan.They just both look a shade lighter but not white.
I also use it myself, including on my face, and love it.It has a high glycerin content so it can feel a little tacky sometimes but it doesn't last long.
I have tried so many physical sunscreens (Vanicream, Purple Prairie, Trukid Sunny Days, Trukid Sunny Days Sport, Episencial Sunny Sunscreen, Badger, Goddess Garden Baby, ThinkBaby, Kabana, Kabana Tinted, Eco Logical Body, Eco Logical Face, Eco Logical Baby, etc).BurnOut Kids is my primary choice for my children because of ease of application.I hate "sunscreen drag" and some of the aforementioned sunscreens have it.I do not want to tug and pull and push on my skin to rub something into it.I want a product to glide over my skin easily and this does just that.
I also love the Eco Logical sunscreens.I use those and BurnOut on myself, but I use only BurnOut on my kids just because it is so easy to rub into their faces while they are struggling to get away from me.
Blistex Five Star Lip Protection, .15 Ounce
For years I have had to put up with the sub-par effects of Blistex Silk n' Shine, mostly because there was not a good alternative. This is the alternative and you will not be sorry you switched. The SPF 30 is perfect for the long days on the ski slopes, or days at the beach. This is also ultra-hydrating with out having heavy oils like other products that contain coco oil, or coconut oil that can clog pores.The hydrating effects of the product also last for a while, two to three hours even when out doors compared to an hour at best with other Blistex products. One small issue is the taste. Everyone says "Well you aren't suppose to eat chapstick!" but most do end up getting a little taste every now and then. For supper tasters that are sensitive to bitterness, this may not be the best product-but for the rest of us it is just fine. Finally, everyone needs to know about the smell (since it sits right below your nose), and I love it. It is a cross between chocolate and vanilla this is not over powering.
I made the switch and am happy I did! FIVE STAR is an accurate name!

First, let me say that I am addicted to lip balm.I apply it throughout the day, everyday.I bought this Blistex for vacation since it has an spf of 30.My regular Chapstick only has spf 4.This product was completely useless on the beach since it melted.Even in warm weather pieces broke off when applied.Also, it tastes horrible.Luckily I brought my regular Chapstick and just reapplied it more often.I do use and like some of the other Blistex balms, but i'll never buy this specific item again.

I I found this face block on the Environmental Working Group's list of safest sunscreens. It is very thick a little goes a long way. It leaves the skin slightly whitened, but since I use it under makeup, it doesn't show. I was at the beach for 4 hours and never had to re-apply. I would buy this product again.
Many of the "natural" sunscreens still have the chemical sunscreens in them that are carcinogenic.This one does not and is rated quite well at the environmental working group website for safety.I've tried 4 or 5 truly natural sunscreens that use titanium or zinc oxide.Some were horrific, this is not my favorite but decent.For full on body sunblocks that are truly natural I prefer Carribean Solutions first, Alba Botanical Mineral Sunscreen second, and this third.It's not necessarily intended as a body block but it will work.Just a warning the Burt's Bees Sunscreen was the worse if you're looking around at options, it went on so dry you couldn't spread it, it clumped, sweated off almost immediately, and it didn't work, I burned terribly.So, finding one that works for you is important.
But, I regress.... Any natural sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium oxide will go on white.This one is no exception but it's pretty good if you don't put it on too thick.
The truly natural sunscreens like this are not overly water proof.I'd recommend this one for a facial sunscreen, not as much for an overall body sunscreen though as it's not as water proof as my top choices.Of course that makes it good for a facial option as you don't want to greasy of a formula on your face.
Over all, it worked well... I did not burn, it goes on reasonably well for a truly natural sunscreen, it's not very water resistant, not overly greasy so a decent option for your face, and I did not burn while using it.I will likely buy this again when I run out.

I was very disappointed with this sunscreen. I read the reviews and still went ahead with the purchase because I have used other Desert Essence products for years and loved them but I should have listened to those who already knew better. Yes, it does smell nice enough but that's the one and only pro. The main problem is the cream is too thick--way too thick! I've used Alba Botanica's mineral facial sunscreen up until now but thought I'd choose the less expensive Desert Essence and see how it went. No comparison. Whereas Alba's works into your face quickly and leaves it feeling soft and moisturized I must agree with another review in saying that after working in the D.E. sunscreen you've got to be doing more damage to your face than you're avoiding from the sun. My husband and I joked that I was putting on my pale vampire face every time I applied it because it never fully worked in. It also is so thick that now that I've broken the seal it's very hard to squeeze out of the bottle. Because of the white discoloring I'm even hesitant to use it on the rest of my body. This sunscreen has the consistency of cream cheese, which I prefer because it is easy to apply without running.I know people who think it is too thick (one tube burst at the seam when I squeezed it to get the sunscreen to come out), but I find that a little bit at a time may be applied, and spread evenly.

Okay, I bought this product back in November of 2010. I used it once and filed it away in the OH HELL NO cabinet. Why? Because it was somewhat difficult to apply and it left my face with a whitish/light blue tinge. I looked like a mime. No Bueno!Fast forward to July 2011, my "other" organic sunscreen was way to greasy and by the end of the day I looked like candle wax: hot, oily, and melted.
I pulled this suncreen out of the Oh Hell No cabinet and once again the whitish/blue tinge returned. I covered it with my mineral makeup and VOILA... problem solved.
I didn't look like a geisha, the dryness of the sunscreen served as a primer/oil controller, it lasted through sweaty days and my makeup stays put from morning to night. Also my pores are not exaggerated and I have the perfect matte finish.
This sunscreen will remain in my arsenal for eternity and I am glad I gave it a second chance.

I was given a stick of lip balm in my hotel room at the Phoenician in Arizona. I'm sure they did it because of the high temps and dryness of the air. I've always had trouble with chapped lips, but this stuff was like magic!!! My lips are moisturized and much more comfortable.
