Anthelios Xl High Protection Stick 9g SPF 50

Hard to find lip balm with very high protection. The container is great, and protects the product. It does not have a cap to fall off and lose; instead, you slide the orange button one way and the product comes up. It's not the most moisturizing product in the world; clearly SPF is the focus here. I find myself applying it more often than other lip balms. But if SPF is what you want, this is the best. The Anthelios line I"ve found very good generally; my dermatologist reccomended it.

I have both La Roche extremely fluid for face and for body, and love them both. But the face fluid was inadequate to protect my lips for my 5 hr bike rides or skiing. So I bought the lipstick to protect my lips. I have used the older version for 2 years, loved it for its superior sun protection. This is the newer model that came out in 2012.

It made a few changes over the older version, not sure that they are improvements, some definitely are not.

The older version looks whitish on lips, which is typical for sunblocks. The new one looks more like a regular lip balm, which makes the lips look pretty, however, I am not sure about its sun protection effectiveness because of this change. So far, it seems to work fine.

The new one needs both hands to operate like a regular lip balm, one to remove the cover, one to twist the balm. The older version is better for active outdoor use, as the casing is made of one piece that requires only one hand to operate.

My biggest complaint is the poor quality of the plastic casing. After several usages, the bottom broke and fell off. That makes the whole lip balm unusable, because the cover cannot stay with the lip balm without the bottom.

So far, I will stay with this brand and get another one. If the same happens, I will have to switch to another maker.

P.S. when you buy La Roche sunscreens, it is important to buy Anthelios XL line. It gives full protection against both UVA and UVB.
